The Greek Festival of Sydney is one of Australia's largest and longest-running annual cultural festivals, celebrating Greek heritage, arts, and community through a diverse program of events. Organised by the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW, the festival has become one of the country's most significant celebrations of Greek culture and a highlight of Australia's multicultural calendar.
Established in 1980, the festival was created to preserve and promote Greek cultural and artistic traditions while strengthening the connection between the Greek Australian community and the wider public. Held annually across the months of March, April, and May, the festival presents an extensive program that includes outdoor celebrations, concerts, theatrical performances, exhibitions, lectures, folkloric activities, film screenings, and cross-cultural events.
Each year, the festival welcomes artists, performers, and cultural organisations from Australia and overseas, creating opportunities for cultural exchange while showcasing both traditional and contemporary Greek arts. Its events attract thousands of visitors from diverse backgrounds who come together to experience Greek music, dance, food, history, and creativity.
Today, the Greek Festival of Sydney continues to play a leading role in promoting Greek culture across Australia while celebrating the contribution of the Greek Australian community to the country's multicultural identity.
