Polyphonia

Polyphonia is a Greek music choir based in Berlin, Germany, founded in March 2009 as an amateur choral ensemble through the initiative of the Greek cultural association Exantas (Εξάντας) and a group of enthusiasts of Greek music. Bringing together singers of different ages and predominantly Greek and German backgrounds, Polyphonia represents a shared passion for Greek musical traditions, cultural exchange and collective artistic expression. According to the choir's presentation, the ensemble has grown to approximately 50 members, united by their enjoyment of singing and their interest in exploring the many dimensions of Greek music.

At the heart of Polyphonia is a commitment to presenting Greek music in its different forms and introducing its cultural heritage to a wider audience. The choir's members share an appreciation for Greek history and musical culture, working together towards common artistic goals while maintaining the joy and social connection of singing as a group. This combination of musical collaboration and intercultural participation creates a space where people from different generations and cultural backgrounds can engage with Greek musical expression.

Polyphonia also reflects the role of community-based music in strengthening connections between Greek and German cultural life in Berlin. Its activities bring together people who share an interest in choral singing, Greek heritage and artistic collaboration, making the ensemble part of the city's Greek cultural landscape. The choir lists its rehearsal location as Begegnungsstätte, Falckensteinstraße 6, 10997 Berlin. Through its musical work and collective identity, Polyphonia aims to share the richness of Greek music with audiences beyond the Greek-speaking community and encourage appreciation of its traditions across cultural boundaries.
