The San Francisco Greek Film Festival is the first and longest-running Greek film festival in the United States, dedicated to recognizing, supporting, and promoting outstanding film work by Greek and Cypriot filmmakers from around the world. Founded in 2004, the festival has become an important cultural institution in the San Francisco Bay Area, connecting audiences with contemporary Greek and Cypriot cinema.
Each year, the festival presents a curated program of new, innovative, and acclaimed films, alongside special events, filmmaker appearances, and selected screenings of classic works. Through documentaries, feature films, shorts, and artistic storytelling, the festival offers audiences a meaningful way to engage with Greek culture, history, language, and identity through the power of cinema.
Over the years, the San Francisco Greek Film Festival has showcased hundreds of films, welcomed filmmakers and industry guests, and inspired thousands of attendees from San Francisco and across the Bay Area. Entirely supported by volunteers, sponsors, grants, ticket sales, and community partners, the festival reflects a strong commitment to cultural preservation and artistic excellence.
Proceeds benefit the Modern Greek Studies Foundation, supporting its mission to promote knowledge and appreciation of Greece’s linguistic, literary, cultural, and historical contributions.
