Description
Cyprus is an island nation in the eastern Mediterranean Sea and the region's third-largest and third-most populous island. Its capital is Nicosia, which is the world's last divided capital city, with a UN buffer zone ("Green Line") separating the southern, Greek Cypriot part from the northern, Turkish Cypriot part.
Geography
The island is located at a strategic crossroads between Europe, Asia, and Africa, south of Turkey and west of Syria and Lebanon.
- Mountain Ranges: It features two main mountain ranges: the Troodos Mountains in the south (with the highest peak Mount Olympus at 1,952 m or 6,404 ft) and the narrower Kyrenia Mountains in the north.
- Plain: Between the two mountain ranges lies the fertile Mesaoria plain.
- Climate: It has a strong Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters, with snow frequently falling in the Troodos mountains.
- Coastline: The coastline in the north is rocky, while the south is dominated by sandy beaches, many of which have Blue Flag status.
Η Κύπρος είναι ένα νησί-κράτος στην ανατολική Μεσόγειο Θάλασσα και είναι το τρίτο μεγαλύτερο νησί της περιοχής μετά τη Σικελία και τη Σαρδηνία. - Μορφολογία: Το μεγαλύτερο μέρος του νησιού είναι ορεινό. Διαθέτει δύο κύριες οροσειρές: την οροσειρά του Τροόδους στα νοτιοδυτικά (με ψηλότερη κορυφή τον Όλυμπο) και την οροσειρά του Πενταδακτύλου στα βορειοανατολικά. Ανάμεσά τους εκτείνεται η εύφορη πεδιάδα της Μεσαορίας.
- Κλίμα: Το κλίμα της Κύπρου είναι τυπικό μεσογειακό, με μεγάλη διάρκεια ηλιοφάνειας καθ' όλη τη διάρκεια του έτους, ζεστά καλοκαίρια και ήπιους χειμώνες
