Famagusta

Famagusta is one of the most historically significant regions of Cyprus, located along the island’s eastern coastline. Known for its rich history, medieval architecture, coastal beauty and deep emotional importance to Cypriots worldwide, the region remains strongly connected to the identity and memory of the Cypriot diaspora.

The district includes historic cities, traditional villages, archaeological landmarks and some of the most well-known coastal destinations in Cyprus, including Ayia Napa, Protaras and Cape Greco. The ancient city of Salamis, the historic walled city of Famagusta and the coastline of the eastern Mediterranean have shaped the region’s cultural and historical importance for centuries.

Following the events of 1974, many families from the region were displaced, creating strong diaspora communities across the world. Today, Famagusta continues to symbolize heritage, memory, resilience and the enduring connection between Cypriots abroad and their ancestral homeland.
