Taverna Avli is a traditional Greek restaurant in Bochum, Germany, offering fresh Greek cuisine and Mediterranean hospitality just steps away from the city's Bermudadreieck. Founded in 2002 by Vassilis Sakkalis, the restaurant was created as a place where guests could experience a genuine piece of Greece in the heart of the Ruhr region. Vassilis Sakkalis originally comes from Stylida in Central Greece, on the coast of the Gulf of Malia. Growing up in a home with a traditional courtyard where family and friends gathered to eat, celebrate, play, and spend time together inspired the concept behind Avli. When he discovered the Bochum location with its own courtyard in 2002, it provided the ideal setting to recreate some of that atmosphere and sense of home.
