The Greek National Sailing Team competes in the Star Sailors League (SSL) Gold Cup Qualifiers, one of the most innovative and prestigious sailing competitions in the world.

Taking place from July 12 to 16, 2026, in Switzerland, the event follows a World Cup format similar to football, bringing together national teams from across the globe. Greece has been drawn alongside Portugal, Turkey, and Bulgaria in a highly competitive group.

The SSL Gold Cup is a unique international sailing tournament, featuring identical high-performance boats and crews composed entirely of national athletes. The competition emphasizes national pride, teamwork, and elite-level performance.

Led by Olympic medalist Emilios Papathanasiou, the Greek team includes top sailors such as Tasos Bountouris, Dimitris Deligiannis, Afroditi Zegers, Antonis Bougiouris, Giorgos Drougas, and other distinguished athletes.

With live races, national anthems, and a format designed for spectators, the SSL Gold Cup aims to elevate sailing to a broader global audience.

This qualification phase is part of a global series running from December 2025 to November 2026, leading to the final stage in Rio de Janeiro, where the world champion will be crowned.
