The Greek Film Festival in Berlin

The Greek Film Festival in Berlin is an annual film festival dedicated to contemporary Greek cinema and films connected to Greece. Founded in 2015 under the name Hellas Filmbox Berlin, the festival introduces German and international audiences to Greek filmmaking through a programme of feature films, documentaries and short films. Organised by the German-Greek Cultural Association, it provides a platform for Greek cinematic storytelling, artistic exchange and the international presentation of new film productions.

The festival traditionally takes place over five days in March at the historic Babylon cinema in central Berlin. Its programme features approximately 35 to 40 films, including fiction features, documentaries and shorts, many presented as German or international premieres. The selection brings together different cinematic perspectives and subjects, highlighting the diversity of contemporary Greek filmmaking and the work of filmmakers whose stories are connected to Greece.

Beyond film screenings, The Greek Film Festival in Berlin creates opportunities for dialogue and professional exchange. Its activities include appearances by directors, producers, jury members, film professionals and artists, alongside discussions, exhibitions, networking events and other cultural activities. These elements connect audiences with the people behind the films and encourage conversations about cinema, creativity and cultural identity.

Through its combination of screenings, premieres and accompanying events, the festival contributes to the international visibility of Greek cinema. It provides a meeting point for filmmakers, industry professionals and audiences interested in discovering new Greek productions and exploring the connections between Greek and international film culture.
