The Chian Federation

The Chian Federation is a Greek cultural and community organization based in Astoria, New York, dedicated to preserving Chian heritage, supporting education, and promoting awareness of issues connected to Chios and Greece. Known also through its cultural home, Χιώτικο Σπίτι, the Federation serves as an important gathering point for Chians, Greek Americans, and friends of Chios in the wider New York community.

The organization’s work includes cultural education, community events, scholarship initiatives, traditional dance programs, fundraising activities, and public engagement. Through the Chian Federation Scholarship Foundation, it supports students while encouraging pride in Greek heritage and a commitment to giving back to the community.

Historically, the Federation was founded with a mission to raise awareness of Chios’ sensitive position in the Aegean and to strengthen public understanding of political and cultural matters affecting the island and Greece as a whole. Over time, its mission has expanded to include youth development, cultural preservation, and community service.

Through Greek folk dance classes for children and adults, scholarship events, the Homeric and Ionian Award galas, and participation in the Greek Independence Day Parade, The Chian Federation continues to promote Chian identity, Hellenic values, and intergenerational community connection.
