Public historian Dr Christopher Gribbin leads a five-session exploration of Homer’s Odyssey as part of the Hellenic Museum’s 2027 Summer School. The course examines the epic beyond its adventure narrative, looking at Odysseus’ transformation after war, the disruption of his household during his absence and the long process of returning home and restoring order. Sessions move from Homer and the world behind the poem to the structure of Odysseus’ journey, his cautious homecoming and the resolution that follows. Participants can attend at the Hellenic Museum or join online, with remote attendees able to take part live or watch recorded lectures later.
