Rebetika in Melbourne

Rebetika in Melbourne is a cultural initiative founded by Melbourne-based musician, composer, and events producer Con Kalamaras, dedicated to celebrating and promoting Greek music, particularly the rich tradition of Rebetiko, throughout Australia. Through concerts, festivals, educational events, and cultural collaborations, the organisation has become an important platform connecting Greek artists with Australian audiences.

Led by Con Kalamaras, Rebetika in Melbourne presents live performances featuring acclaimed artists from Greece and Australia while supporting meaningful cultural exchange between the two countries. Over the years, the initiative has organised tours, workshops, community events, and festival appearances that showcase both traditional and contemporary Greek music.

Con Kalamaras is the Co-founder and Artistic Director of the Melbourne Rebetiko Festival, Co-founder and Director of Greek Fringe, and organiser of the popular Melbourne Rebetiko Jam. His work has introduced Australian audiences to internationally recognised Greek artists while creating opportunities for collaboration across the multicultural arts sector.

As one of Australia's leading independent presenters of contemporary Greek music and culture, Rebetika in Melbourne continues to strengthen the artistic connection between Greece and Australia. Through live performances, cultural events, and creative collaborations, the organisation preserves the legacy of Rebetiko while supporting the future of Greek music and cultural expression.
